JOHN VEALE is an abstract expressionist painter, living in Ibiza. His work reveals creative vibrancy, bold use of colour with physical unplanned energy and movement. He has found the freedom to create artwork that is courageous, emotional and passionate.

John was born in Somerset, England. He has painted since he was around 10 years old. He attended small class lessons from Anne Hoenig on Ibiza for several years, and also attended Central Saint Martins London for a course in Abstract Expressionism led by Ewa Gargulinska.

“I never stop marvelling at the miracle of existence, not just us living creatures, but the universe itself. All matter. I believe art can show something of what cannot be understood intellectually. That it can be a connection to the mystery of the universe.”

“Science has gone a long way to understanding how things are - particularly quantum physics, but the more that is discovered, the more mysterious it turns out to be. I believe art can be a bridge to understanding something of these mysteries at an emotional level.”

“I would say that my figurative work is mostly left brain (the logical, critical part of the brain), whereas, I deliberately try to access my right brain (emotional/intuitive) in my abstracts. When I produce an abstract, I don’t have a plan. I have no idea what will happen.”
